Steve took a call from someone looking to book us for a dance. “I hear you guys kick ass”, she said. “Yes we do”, said Steve. Nice to see that the word is starting to get around after only six years. That’s actually pretty quick.
Speaking of ego, I updated the About Us page today.

The Axes will be at the Smithers Legion this New Year’s Eve. We’re scheduled to play from 9:30 to 11:30 and then Bobby Van Grootheest will take over with his DJ arsenal of rock and pop hits. Hey, if you show up and you’re sufficiently enthusiastic, we just might be persuaded to play a bit longer.
P.S. At our last gig at the Legion, the tickets sold out pretty far in advance. Just sayin’ . . .

Yep, we opened for Trooper at the 100th Annual Telkwa Barbecue concert. We had time for a 45-minute set, which I think went really well. Here’s what we played:
Get A Haircut
Tush
I Ain’t Superstitious
I Want to Break Free
All Right Now
Jumpin’ Jack Flash
Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap)
Bad Bad Boy
Bad to the Bone
Won’t Get Fooled Again
After Trooper’s set was finished, I started carrying my stuff out to the car. Passing by the backstage area, I happened to meet Ra McGuire and Gogo. Ra walked up and shook my hand, asked my name, etc. Gogo asked about our music and if we have anything online. Really nice, friendly guys. They must have been really tired by then but they took a moment to say hi.
I took some photos of Trooper’s set. You can see them on Facebook.
My wife and granddaughter took a bunch of photos of our set. Here are what I think are the ten best. If you want to see the more than 60 pics I uploaded after thinning them out but before reducing them to the best ten, they’re on Facebook.

According to what one of the organizers of the Telkwa Barbecue told me on Friday night, we’ll get either 60 or 75 minutes to play, depending on what’s in Trooper’s rider. I hope to get a clarifying email very soon. So, that’s about 15 or 19 songs. I’ve made up a set list that should run about 75 minutes. If it turns out to be 60 minutes, we’ll need to trim four songs.
