Burns Lake – after the gig (with pics)

Saturday, August 17th, 2013

Good times!

The loving couple arranged to have their dance in the pub at the Lakeland Hotel and arranged for our rooms in the same establishment.  The place is a bit older and the rooms aren’t fancy but they’re clean.  The bed was certainly comfortable enough, which is about all that matters after a late night when you’re no longer a youthful party animal. 😉  It’s certainly a plus for the rooms to be at the same location as the gig.

The stage in the pub isn’t very big but we made it work.  The staff were friendly and helpful.  We played, people sang along, people danced, people cheered, plenty of fun was had.  There was only one fight, as far as I could tell.  It stopped when some really big guy put the aggressor in a bear hug until he calmed down.

Hot stage!

Had fun playing on this stage on Sunday, August 4th.  There was a fire right next to it a few days later, destroying two local businesses.  As far as I know, the stage wasn’t seriously damaged but events had been scheduled there for the whole week and they had to be moved.

By the way, if anyone has photos of us performing on the stage on Main Street on Sunday (I saw cameras!), I’d love to get copies.

Next up…

Yay, Heather and Steve are back!

We’ll spend this week getting ready to play a dance next Friday, August 16 in Burns Lake for a private event (a renewal of vows).

Unfortunately, Laurette won’t be able to join us for this one.

After the Smithers Homecoming Gig

Monday, August 5th, 2013

Well, that was fun.  The turnout was pretty good.  It seemed like people were starting to gather near the end of the set before us and the numbers increased as we played.  Thanks to everyone who danced!  You made it more fun for everyone, especially us.

The performance went well but Al and I had a brief discussion last week (well before this event) and agreed that we probably shouldn’t do gigs without Steve and Heather.  It just isn’t as good. Sure, there was more room for me to showboat but still…

Axes at Smithers Homecoming

Saturday, August 3rd, 2013

Almost Axes of Ego will be playing tonight (Sunday) in Smithers at the Legacy Stage on the corner of Main Street and Broadway, 8 to 10 pm, for Homecoming Week in honour of the one hundredth anniversary of the town.

I’m calling it “Almost Axes of Ego” because we don’t have Steve or Heather with us for this one.
