A mountainous announcement to come? Stay tuned.

Kickin’ Ass

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

Steve took a call from someone looking to book us for a dance. “I hear you guys kick ass”, she said. “Yes we do”, said Steve.  Nice to see that the word is starting to get around after only six years.  That’s actually pretty quick.

Speaking of ego, I updated the About Us page today.

Axes of Ego on New Year’s Eve

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

The Axes will be at the Smithers Legion this New Year’s Eve.  We’re scheduled to play from 9:30 to 11:30 and then Bobby Van Grootheest  will take over with his DJ arsenal of rock and pop hits.  Hey, if you show up and you’re sufficiently enthusiastic, we just might be persuaded to play a bit longer.  😉

P.S.  At our last gig at the Legion, the tickets sold out pretty far in advance. Just sayin’ . . .

Tentative Set List for September 1

Sunday, August 26th, 2012

According to what one of the organizers of the Telkwa Barbecue told me on Friday night, we’ll get either 60 or 75 minutes to play, depending on what’s in Trooper’s rider. I hope to get a clarifying email very soon. So, that’s about 15 or 19 songs. I’ve made up a set list that should run about 75 minutes. If it turns out to be 60 minutes, we’ll need to trim four songs.

We won!

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

Whew. I’m exhausted. Got home at about 2:45am after the events described below.

The Peak sponsored a Battle of the Bands to find a classic rock cover band to open for Trooper at the 100th Annual Telkwa Barbeque. Last night, two bands met in the finale at The Royal Canadian Legion in Smithers: Magneto from Houston, BC, and us, Axes of Ego, from the Hazeltons.

Our set list for KVMF 2012

Sunday, July 29th, 2012

So, 4pm, Sunday, July 29 at the Kispiox Valley Music Festival, we’re scheduled to play on the River Stage.  Here’s our set list, with a few annotations.

KVMF 2012

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

The Kispiox Valley Music Festival is upon us once again.  This year, Geoff Wattling is teaching me how to be the Sound Coordinator.  We’re playing, of course.  We’re scheduled to perform on the River Stage (that’s the big, beautiful outdoor stage) on Sunday, July 29, at 4pm.  Our set is going to rock, of course, while simultaneously encouraging unrest.  Sounds like fun, eh?

I don’t see that anyone has posted the festival schedule online yet, so I’m going to post this unofficial (!) copy here: KVMF 2012 Performers Schedule.

Battle of the Bands: Round One Results

Sunday, July 15th, 2012

Well, we’re through to the finals, having won round one in the Battle of the Bands last night (Saturday).  We won by default, since we were the only band that showed up for this round.  That’s not necessarily the way we’d prefer to win but we’ll take it.  If the verbal responses of the judges and others who offered their opinions is any indication, we did well.  They liked the sound, they liked the look.  Steve and I handed out some cards with our logo, URL, and contact info.
